Getting Around Miami During Art Basel 2026

Miami Art Week 2026 runs November 30 to December 6, and Art Basel Miami Beach is its centerpiece. For one week, collectors, gallery teams, artists and visitors from around the world move between Miami Beach, the Design District, Wynwood and downtown, often several times a day. Distances are short, but the traffic isn’t. This guide covers where everything is, how long it takes to get there, and how to plan your days so you spend them at the fairs, not in the car.

Prilux Limo is a Miami chauffeur service and is not affiliated with Art Basel or any fair listed below. Dates and venues are from the organizers’ published information; please check each fair’s official site before you travel.

Most satellite fairs open during Art Week (Nov 30 – Dec 6). Check each fair’s official website for its exact 2026 dates and hours.

Most other Art Week activity, such as gallery openings, brand events and dinners, happens in the Design District, Wynwood, Brickell and along Collins Avenue. That means many trips across Biscayne Bay.

How long it takes to get there

The times below are typical drive times outside rush hour. During Art Week, add 50% or more in the afternoons and evenings.

FromTo Miami Beach Convention CenterDistance
Miami International Airport (MIA)about 20 min~10 miles
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport (FLL)about 40–55 min~30 miles
Opa-locka Executive Airport (OPF), private aviationabout 30–40 min~16 miles
Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE), private aviationabout 45–60 min~35 miles
Design District / Wynwoodabout 15–25 min~5–6 miles
Brickell / downtownabout 15–25 min~5 miles

Times are estimates and vary a lot with traffic. Landing at MIA or FLL? See our MIA and FLL airport car service.

Arriving by private jet? Miami’s main private aviation terminals are Opa-locka (OPF), Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE) and Signature at MIA. All three get very busy during Art Week. A chauffeur who tracks your tail number or arrival time and waits planeside or at the FBO saves the most time. See our Art Basel chauffeur service.

The causeways: Art Week’s real bottleneck

The main causeways to South Beach and Mid-Beach are the MacArthur Causeway (I-395, to South Beach), the Venetian Causeway (slower, with drawbridges) and the Julia Tuttle Causeway (I-195, to Mid-Beach). Further north are the 79th Street / JFK Causeway and the Broad Causeway. During Art Week they’re busiest from late afternoon into the evening, when the fairs close and dinners and parties begin.

Tips:

  • Book your Design District and Wynwood visits for the morning, and the Convention Center for the afternoon, or the other way around. Avoid crossing the bay at 5–7 pm.
  • Stay near where you’ll spend most of your time. A Miami Beach hotel is easiest for Art Basel; Brickell or downtown suits NADA, Art Miami and the mainland galleries.
  • Use one pickup point per venue. Drop-off lanes at the Convention Center get crowded at closing time. Agree on a corner a block or two away with your driver; it’s usually faster than the main entrance.
  • Plan dinner after 8 pm, or near your last venue.

Getting around: your options

  • Free shuttles and water taxis: in 2025 the City of Miami Beach ran free Art Week shuttles (South Beach, Mid-Beach and a Design District route) and a free water taxi across the bay. We’ll update this section when the 2026 plan is published.
  • Miami Beach trolley: free and frequent, good for short hops within Miami Beach.
  • Rideshare: convenient but expensive and slow at closing time, with long waits and surge pricing.
  • Driving yourself: parking near the Convention Center fills quickly and valet lines are long.
  • A private chauffeur by the hour: your vehicle stays with you all day. The driver plans routes around the traffic, waits at each venue and holds your purchases, catalogs and coats. For a full day of fair-hopping with several stops, it’s often the most efficient choice. See hourly chauffeur service in Miami.

Traveling as a group or a gallery team

Gallery staff, collectors traveling together and corporate groups often book a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (up to 14 passengers and 20 bags) for airport runs and installation days, and a Cadillac Escalade ESV or Chevrolet Suburban (up to 6 passengers) for VIP clients during the fair. If you’re hosting clients during Art Week, see our corporate car service.

Frequently asked questions

Is there free transportation during Art Basel Miami Beach? In 2025 the City of Miami Beach ran free Art Week shuttles and a free water taxi across Biscayne Bay, and the Miami Beach trolley is free year-round. We’ll update this answer when the 2026 plan is announced.

Where is the easiest place to get dropped off at the Convention Center?
The drop-off lanes on Convention Center Drive get very crowded at opening and closing times. Agreeing on a pickup corner a block or two away, for example toward 17th Street or Washington Avenue, is usually faster. We’ll add the city’s official 2026 drop-off zones when they’re published.

Which causeway is best during Art Week?
It depends on where you’re going. The MacArthur Causeway is the most direct route between downtown and South Beach, and the Julia Tuttle Causeway connects Mid-Beach with the Design District and Wynwood. All of them back up between about 4 and 7 pm, so time your crossings outside that window.

How far is the Design District from Art Basel?
About 5–6 miles, which takes roughly 15–25 minutes without heavy traffic via the Julia Tuttle Causeway. During Art Week afternoons it can take much longer.

Is it easy to get a rideshare when the fair closes?
It can be slow. Demand peaks when the fairs close around 6 pm, so expect waits and surge pricing. Many visitors walk a few blocks away from the Convention Center before requesting a ride, or arrange a chauffeur in advance.
